6/29/02  (0227): I actually get two days off in a row!  I think I said earlier it would have been the three that I like, but I wanted Sat night off.  If I didn't need the medical insurance I'd go Per Diem and believe it or not the pay is so much higher that I'd make more working 2 days a week than the three I work now!  But, you never know when something medical might come up and I'd prefer not to have to pay the money that would entail.

Kristi is in Washington D.C. and reading about it is a hoot!  To see her D.C. pics and read about her adventures in D.C. take a look
here. I think I should add that to my list, I'd like to see the sights in Washington D.C.

If you've been reading along I think you've realized by now that I have a boring life!  It's either work, the computer, or sleep....oh, I watch a lot of TV also!  My excuse is work (what else!)  Take for example the last 2 weeks, I've only had a single day off at a time.  I just can't whip up the energy to get out & do something!

I'm going to the Fair on Tuesday.  When I heard on the news that day would be free for kids 12 & under I called up Fariba to see if Tina wanted to go with me.  She's in summer school, not because she has to be but because she
wants to be there.  I asked if she wanted to skip school and go to the fair with me, she said yes.  You know what that means - yep, more pictures!

Oh, I have a domain name now!  But I won't tell you until it's ready, but you can probably guess what it is.  Instead of having to go thru geocities, you can use that name.  When it's ready I'll let everyone know.

Anyway, vacation looms closer & closer and I can't wait!  It won't be as exciting as going to England (which is now planned for next year), but it will be fun in a different way.  There's no telling what Mom and I will find to get into!

Nothing exciting to report about my patients, I was on 2East last night with MaryKay & MaryAnn, so I wrote my name on the board as MaryBarbara - hey, some people laughed!  I started with 3 patients and didn't get an admit until 0445, but by that time I'd finished my paperwork for the other three.  We didn't have a night secretary so Maryann put in the orders.  With her help I got the patient assessed, paperwork done and note written in the chart in an hour!  That's a record for me!

I was watching one of the rhythms on a patient on the other side, every time you looked it was doing something different.  She was a "no code" so she was being given comfort care, but we weren't scrambling to treat the dysrhythmia. While I was standing there it just stopped, asystole, flat-line.  No blips or burbles in between; one second the heart was beating, the next it wasn't.
6/30/02  (0344): Hey Steven - happy birthday!

Went over to Brooke's tonight (I guess it was last night now).  It was a nice drive, she lives in Ramona.  And for a little trivia, Ramona just happens to be the geographical center of San Diego County and it used to be called Nuevo.  There, your useless trivia for the day!

Anway, came around one of the corners (nice windy road up the mountain!) and suddenly there were police and at least 5 firetrucks.  They were jumping on a brush fire working its way up the side of one of the hills.  They even had helicopters dropping water on it.  Things are sooooo dry around here right now they have to get it contained fast or it will rage out of control.

They're also working on the road and just before Brooke's turn there's a detour, turning me the other way from her house!  Thank goodness for cellphones!  I pulled over & gave her a call.  She was trying to give me directions over the phone, I'm usually good, but it was just a little confusing up there so I did something I don't like to do, I kept her on the phone while I was driving.  Try turning a corner & shifting the car with a phone in your hand!  I had to tell her to hold on.  Anyway, made it by going the round-about way, past a stinky chicken ranch, peee-uuuu!  I didn't do a page tonight, I was still trying to put my stuff in the neat book I got to hold all my stickers, die-cuts, and papers.  It was fun though, a picture of Misty's work is under scrapbooking on the main page.

Miranda (Brooke's daughter) brought out her pet....a snake.  Yeecch!  It's a small corn snake, kind of pretty in a way.  I actually put out my hand and let the thing crawl up my arm.  Ewwwww!  It was all I could do to hold still!!! I told Brooke if I had a heart attack she could do CPR and I don't have any diseases so she didn't have to worry about a mouth shield!.  Isn't it funny, a harmless snake can send chills and shudders up & down my spine but at work I have no problem doing the stuff I do, and some of it can be pretty gross!

They closed 78 at 7pm so on the way home I had to go South to Poway to get to the freeway.  It was the back way and would have been nice to see in the daytime.  Or maybe not!  There were some places where there was nothing but blackness dropping off on the right side of the car, maybe I didn't want to see how far down it was!  Makes you glad you've checked your tires swooping in and out of the cruves, a blowout could be deadly!

Hey, I've been "recognized" on another website.  To check it out, go
here.  And while you're there you can check out the rest of his website; by the way, he's listed under my Favorites - it's Tom's website.

Oh, I have my domain name now!  Foxicat.com, yeeehaaw!
7/1/02  (0840): I walk on the floor last night, checked out the schedule hanging by the Charge nurse's office and on 2East I see one name - mine!  No LVN, no other RN, I'm the only nurse on that side.  There were only 4 patients to start with and another admit around 2200.  I was the queen of the floor, I was the boss, the one in charge for that side, wooooo hoooo!  Until 11pm.  Then they added an LVN, but I was still in charge & responsible for the patients as I was core staff and the RN on the floor.  I gave 2 of my patients to the other nurse and kept 3, which meant he would get the first admit.  We didn't get another patient until around 0200.
