Home, home, home! Back to page 9 Next page please 18-wheeler, we're still in Texas
Hmm, that means he's really close!
Now we're in Oklahoma, the Sooner State, and if you don't know why it's called the Sooner State, brush up on your American history, or ask me!

1656 - 44 East is also the Turner Turnpike and at this point we paid a toll of $3.50, Tulsa is still 40 miles away.  We never did figure out how this one works!

I mean, when I was in New England you picked up a card where you entered the tollway and the amount you paid depended upon how far you travelled on it.

This one had some exits where you paid on leaving. After you paid at the toll plaza there were signs about "refunds" at some of the exits, but we could never tell if you got on after the toll plaza whether you had to pay before getting on as there were no other toll plazas but this one.

1730 - Tulsa, Oklahoma and the temp is 100 degrees.
At this point this part of the road follows the old Route 66.

There's a river that runs thru Tulsa, the Arkansas River.  Very pretty little river.

We filled up at the QT and it's a good thing we did - the next morning gas prices all over town had risen by 10 cents a gallon!  Just down the street was an EconoLodge for $61 a night.  We had dinner at Fajita Rita's which was on the other side of the turnpike.

0800 - We're back on the 44E/Turner Turnpike heading for St. Louis, Missouri.  Temp is 82 degrees.
World's largest McDonald's
0900 - 85 degrees.   We stopped at the world's largest McDonalds.  It spans both lanes of the turnpike and is over 28 thousand square feet in size.
Missouri Rest Stop/Tourist Info Center
0947 - We've reached Missouri, 87 degrees.  Branson is to the south of us and there are signs all over the place about the Ozarks.  We stopped at a tourist area for info.

Poor Mom, she keeps getting rid of excess items and I keep dragging more stuff in every day!  I am my Father's daughter!

One thing I've noticed is that you can still buy fireworks in Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.  I miss playing with them, they were always sooooo much fun!
Pretty little tourist info center, it and the highway are behind me.  Looks like a great place to take a break, huh?
1429 - We've reached Maryland Heights, just west of St. Louis.  Got gas then went back down the street to the Baymont Inn, $39.00 a night.  We're doing great on our hotel rates as I've picked up a couple of free  "traveler brochures" that give you discount coupouns for different motels & hotels.
