And away we go! Back one page Next page please! Taxi line
Might be hard to see, but there are 4 planes ahead of us, heading for the gate.
Mom & Dad picked me up, after a little direction by me on the cell phone, and we headed off to CostCo.  It was 110 degrees on arrival in Phoenix!

The digital eats up batteries and I didn't want to go thru security with them.  Think about it, a long, thin row of cylinders?  They'd have me pulling everything out of my carry-on looking for the bomb parts!
I need to backtrack for a moment and comment on something.  When you're getting ready for take-off they run a short safety film, showing you what to do in case of an emergency.  I had to laugh when I saw the part "if there is a loss of pressure, an oxygen mask will drop down."  Well, the lady on the video was sitting there nice & quiet, smiling like she didn't have a care in the world.  I can tell you if O2 masks suddenly dropped down I wouldn't be smiling at them!
After CostCo we also headed to WalMart.  Since I was just using a rolling carry-on and the airlines are being strict, I didn't want to use up space by packing shampoo, creme rinse, etc.  So we stopped at WalMart to get that stuff.

After that it was time to eat, we went to a
great chinese buffet place, Great Wall.  Had very good food, a lot of different choices and they were pretty tasty - it was my treat for them coming all the way out there to get me :)
0640 - we're on the road!  Except right off the bat we had to change course!  We were going to take a short-cut to I-17 but the road was blocked, so we had to turn around and go the other way.  Found out once we got back that the road had been blocked in error.  Apparently some squatters were trying to take land and build houses, so they just blocked their access.  Turns out they'd blocked the wrong road!
AZ cactus
Saguaro cactus alongside the road.
Coconino National Forest, elevation 7000 ft.  Heading into Flagstaff, AZ.  It's a nice change to see trees after the "nothing" of the lower deserts.
the stone is actually pink
These are actually pinker when seen in person.  We're still in Arizona, on I-40 East and obviously have come out of the tree zone!
